Topic Advisers & Policy Advisers

Topic Advisers and Policy Advisers provide technical expertise in a specific area and will advise Standards Representatives and the Water UK Standards Board.

In particular, they provide support to Standards Reps answering questions or supplying guidance. Topic Advisers are also asked annually to advise the Standards Board on the project plan to support the Water UK Standards Programme. From time to time they also provide papers or advice on specific subjects.

Standards Reps should flag up requests for advice or support in the regular report which they submit after a committee meeting. Reps can also seek advice directly through the central coordination team.

The role of Topic Advisers in the Standards Programme

Topic Advisers provide technical support throughout the year. This includes but is not limited to:

Advice to standards representatives
Requests come through the Programme's Central Coordination Team

Advice on specific activities

Annual review of the long-term objectives
for their own topic area, including the relevance to the Programme of appointments to BSI and CEN committees

Liaison with the Water UK Networks
To provide appropriate support to committee representatives

Identification of new representatives
and support in succession planning.

Note: Topic advisers would not generally be expected to attend meetings of the Standards Board or BSI/CEN/ISO committees.

Topic Advisers can come from within or outside the water industry. Policy Advisers come from within Water UK.
