Standards Reps from the water industry and the supply chain make major contributions to the drafting of standards, mainly through membership of British Standards Institution (BSi) committees but increasingly in Europe (CEN). These standards are used every day in the purchasing of products and services throughout the water industry and are key to the supply of good quality, cost-effective goods and services. Representation on standards committees brings benefits to you and your organisation.
Standards Representatives represent the view of the UK water industry on standards committees and report on progress of committees via this Standards website.
All Reps belong to the Water UK Standards Programme, which provides a framework for the delivery of standards that reflect the industry’s current good practice and meet its business drivers.
The role normally involves attendance at committee meetings, the review of papers and contribution to the development of standards.
The Reps are fully supported by policy advisers and topic advisers within the Standards Programme.

Representing Water UK on standards committees brings the following rewards:
• The opportunity to help steer the content of standard(s) on which you work.
• The opportunity to learn from the experience of others on the standards committee.
• For European and International standards, the opportunity to experience the standards and industry working practices of other countries and learn by comparing them with UK practices.
• Time spent attending standards committees is counted by many professional bodies as contributing to Continuing Professional Development.
If you are a Standards Representative for Water UK, your company or authority will receive a discount on their annual contribution to the ring-fenced standards budget to which all Water UK members subscribe.
Standards Reps have good working knowledge of their subject and want to share their expertise and their experiences and learn from others. The recruitment of Reps is managed by Water UK and a list of current vacancies is held on the Water UK Standards website.
