Our current representative on BSI B/504/-01/1 – Water Supply – External Systems and Components which is responsible for the development and maintenance of standards for systems and components relating to external mains water supply is to retire on 31 August 2011 and we need to replace him. Our new representative would be the Convenor of B/504/-01/1 which provides the UK input to CEN/TC 164/WG 1.
The representative would also attend B/504 in this capacity and would be the convenor of CEN/TC 164/WG 1 which deals with European Standards in the external systems area of water supply. CEN/TC 164/WG 1 is responsible for the following standards:
EN 1508:1999 - Water supply. Requirements for systems and components for the storage of water
EN 805:2000 - Water supply. Requirements for systems and components outside buildings.
Both of these are published as British Standards and used by the industry so this appointment is vitally important to UK water utilities.
Please bear in mind that any representation you undertake will count towards the discount your organisation receives against their contribution to the Water UK standards budget.
The Water UK Standards Board have agreed the following competencies for Standards Representatives:
• Significant expertise in their field
• Knowledge of industry practice and policy in their field
• Ability to agree with other experts by consensus
• Understanding of the role of standards in the water sector
• Ability to seek the views of experts of other Water UK members
• Willingness to be involved in standards work for Water UK
